I have loved drawing and creative expression from the time I could first hold a pencil and make a mark on paper. I would entertain myself for hours drawing and coloring while growing up and art classes were a very important part of my educational years.

After college I worked as a Graphic Artist and then a Certified Picture Framer and Manager for galleries. After 15 years I decided to follow my heart and make a commitment to creating fine art as well.

In 2001 I began showing and selling my detailed graphite drawings and received numerous awards over the next decade. I was honored to have one of my pieces included in the first edition of “Strokes of Genius – the Best of Drawing” published by North Light Books.

I began studying acrylic painting in 2011 with Bay Area artist Wayne Jiang whose work I had admired at the Triton Museum. He developed a technique to achieve the look of the old Dutch Masters’ oil paintings with acrylic. This technique involves a limited palette, under-painting, and glazing to achieve luminosity and depth. This process takes time, but I feel the results are well worth the effort.

I create art because I’ve learned I must; it feeds and calms my soul. It lets my spirit soar. I continue to be fascinated with the process of making an image appear three-dimensional on a flat surface and the interplay of light with shadow. When I’m inspired, creativity flows and I’m learning to trust my inner voice as I continue to grow as an artist.

My goal with each painting is to create a physical tribute honoring the gift of sight and the beautiful essence I experienced in the deep contemplation of the subject. I hope to entice the viewer to take a closer look and appreciate the haromony, the splendor, the intricacies and the life we were given.

Some of the animals that speak to my soul are endangered and I hope to help raise awareness of what we can all do to save them from extinction.
